APPLICATIONS
Food Applications  / Modified Atmosphere Packing

In the packaging industry as a whole, for both food and non food products, there is a high demand for vacuum either for tray or blister forming, or for the actual vacuum packaging itself.  For tray and blister forming, only a rough vacuum is required to pull the plastic into the required shape.  Vacuum packaging requires a higher level of vacuum to remove as much air as possible from the product, to increase shelf life.

A refinement of this process involves flushing the product with a modified atmosphere after the initial evacuation, prior to re-evacuation and then sealing.  This can give further improvement in shelf life and product appearance.  Typical units would be oil lubricated rotary vane vacuum pumps and roots type boosters.
